Holden Karnofsky is the Executive Director of the Open Philanthropy Project, an organization that identifies outstanding giving opportunities, makes grants, follows the results, and publishes its findings. In 2016, the Open Philanthropy Project recommended over $100 million in grants in causes including criminal justice reform, farm animal welfare, biosecurity, potential risks from advanced AI, and supporting effective altruist organizations.

Holden also serves on the Board of GiveWell, which he co-founded in 2007 and which incubated the Open Philanthropy Project.
