Howie Lempel is a Program Officer for the Open Philanthropy Project, where he's worked on causes including biosecurity and pandemic preparedness, criminal justice reform, potential risks of advanced artificial intelligence, and global poverty alleviation. He is on leave from Yale Law School and has worked for the Brookings Institution and various criminal justice reform organizations. He graduated from Wesleyan University with a BA in Social Studies and Mathematical Economics.

The Open Philanthropy Project is a collaboration between GiveWell and Good Ventures whose aim is to make grants go especially far in terms of improving lives and to share our findings openly so that anyone can build on our work.
