John leads the Applied Research team at Founders Pledge, an organization which encourages entrepreneurs to pledge a portion of their profits to effective charities. At Founders Pledge, he has done extensive work on identifying the most promising opportunities to contribute in the areas of climate change, existential risk mitigation, mental health, forced displacement, and impact investment. His work on climate change and geoengineering has also appeared in academic journals.
Before joining Founders Pledge in 2017, John was a Research Fellow at the Global Priorities Project, a collaboration between the Centre for Effective Altruism and the Future of Humanity Institute, where he specialised in global catastrophic risk. Before that, he was an academic philosopher, obtaining his D.Phil in Political Philosophy from the University of Oxford and working at Oxford's Blavatnik School of Government. His philosophical work has appeared in top academic journals (including Ethics).
